Lahaina Fires: How can you support?
Hawaii is one of the most cultural significant areas in the Pacific. For many years, the city of Lahaina has been a symbol of culture within the Hawaiian islands. On the island of Maui, it is a beloved town with many important spots to locals.
However, it is being burned– almost completely to the ground. And not only Lahaina, but most of Maui as well. With this fires happening, residents are dying, losing their homes, and out of a job. The life of a local 'Mauian' has now turned into a tragic nightmare, one surrounding by fire.
So, how can you help these people? How can we, all over the world, help such a small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
Firstly, do your research. Try to find global charities you can donate to and send any amount of money. Even a single dollar will help the reconstruction and temporary relocation of these people.
However, if you're not in the main land or someplace far, try donating. Clothes, food, blankets, or anything you think may help a desperate family. Even a flashlight could help someone light there way through a dark period in life. Sharing food and water with first responders is another great way to contribute, as the men and women on the front line are working hard to rescue these innocent people.
Reaching out to people you know is a great way to help. Try contacting local businesses to help with the fires. Giving a place to stay is also a great way to help, and fostering pets as well. With the rising hurricanes near Hawaii, it is important to have proper shelter and safety for your family, especially with the current wild fires.
